Spouse visa requirements April 2026:

Eligibility Requirements

The applicant must have a British spouse or fiancé(e). The sponsor may also hold Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or Settled Status (SS).
The couple must be married or engaged with the intention to marry. Evidence is required, such as a marriage certificate or proof of a booked wedding venue in the UK.
The applicant must meet the English language requirement and complete any medical tests required in their country of application.
The sponsor must meet the financial requirement, typically earning at least £29,000 per year, or receiving qualifying benefits (e.g. PIP).
The couple must provide evidence of a genuine relationship and show they have adequate accommodation in the UK.
The applicant must submit the application and pay the relevant fees, including the application fee and Immigration Health Surcharge (medical insurance).

Processing Time

Applications are usually processed within 4 to 12 weeks, after which a decision or eVisa may be issued.
